KIC, Speak for the Trees, and Boston Parks Department Partner for Tree Planting in Roxbury

In a continued effort to strengthen urban green spaces and promote environmental stewardship, Kensington Investment Company is partnering with Speak for the Trees and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department to invest in the revitalization of Gertrude Howe Playground in Boston.

The initiative marks the second year of collaboration between the three organizations, highlighting a growing commitment to community engagement and environmental sustainability. On Friday, May 8, approximately 25 Kensington associates will volunteer their time from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., working alongside speak for the trees to plant 10 native trees and remove litter from the park.

Organizers say the effort is designed not only to improve the park’s appearance but also to deliver long-term environmental benefits. Each newly planted tree is expected to absorb between 22 and 48 pounds of carbon dioxide annually, contributing up to 1,000 pounds of carbon reduction over its lifetime according to Arbor Day foundation.

Each associate at Kensington Investment company has a goal to volunteer 10 hours or more annually to the community.

Community members are encouraged to join the volunteer effort and learn more about Speak for the Trees’ tree care initiatives, which are supported in partnership with the City of Boston. The event aims to foster a deeper connection between residents and their local green spaces while equipping them with knowledge about urban tree stewardship.

By combining corporate support, nonprofit expertise, and municipal resources, the partnership demonstrates how collaborative action can enhance neighborhood environments and contribute to broader climate resilience goals.
